Don't be wary of the Stinging Nettle. It's a dynamic plant - often considered a weed - found in every backyard that actually has powerful medicinal health benefits. Nettle is a versatile and delicious wild food and it's free!

Slow Food offers it's members and friends an opportunity to learn more about how to recognize, gather and use this wonderful plant. And become familiar with other spontaneous greens of spring.

5 Course Nettle Dinner Menu Saturday April 17 at 7 pm

Chef and Slow Food Canada president Mara Jernigan opens up her culinary studio and elegant dining room for a 5-course dinner experience featuring local products from the Slow Food Ark Of Taste. Reservations a must! Call: 250-746-4637.

1st. Spontaneous Spring Greens with Hilary's Goat Cheese and Nettle Tart Vin Cotto and Venturi Schulze Vinaigrette

2nd. Stinging Nettle Gnocchi with Nodding Onion Butter

3rd. Fennel and Coriander Crusted Halibut Cheeks with Sorrel Sauce, Leek and Rutabaga Slaw

4th. Rabbit Ballontine and Roasted Rabbit Loin "Chops", Squash Timbale and Sautéed Kale

5th. Rhubarb Crostada with home made Sweet Sicily Ice Cream

Drop in 11 am to 3 pm
$5 members. $10 others.

Includes taste workshops, guided walks, observations on the nettle's medicinal uses, gathering tips and nettle tea. Taste! Walk! Learn about the Stinging Nettle, Miner's Lettice, Ox Eye Daisy, Horse Tail and more.

Curious about nettle pizza from a wood-fired oven, nettle soup, tart and more? Plan to have lunch at Fairburn's Stinging Nettle Café set up especially for the event. Menu ranges from $5 to $15 for a unique and delicious treat.
